Experience the Alaska-Canada Highway . . . In a Toyota Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle and High Def!

You may have read our recent post detailing the 2,300 mile/seven-day journey we took in a Toyota Highlander fuel cell hybrid vehicle (FCHV), traveling the famed Alcan Highway from the upper Yukon Territory all the way down to Vancouver, British Columbia.

Those fortunate enough to be in the Los Angeles area this week can learn more about the trip and see the actual vehicle--still cloaked in dried mud from the trip--at the LA Auto Show.  And the January edition of Road & Track, on sale December 1, will have a special report on the Toyota FCHV and the Alcan Highway experience by Road & Track's Engineering Editor, Dennis Simanaitis, who accompanied us on the trip.

But readers of Open Road have a special treat, perhaps the next best thing to being there--high definition video of the trip produced by Toyota and posted right above.  So sit back in the comfort of your own home, office or wherever you surf the web and take a leisurely jaunt with us down the Alaska-Canada Highway in a Toyota Highlander FCHV.  You'll see vivid images of the vehicle and the gorgeous environment along the route and hear expert accounts of the trip and the FCHV from Toyota's Advanced Technology Group and Corporate Communications as well as Road & Track.

Enjoy!

OMG-This is so cool. When is this vehicle going to be available?

Your recent ads say "Why not?"

I agree: Why not drop your opposition to the CA fuel standards?

You say you can't meet the standards . . . why not? Perhaps because your strategy right now is built around profitable, gas guzzling trucks and SUVs.

Drop your opposition or we'll never buy another Toyota!

I drove a 4-Runner and a Trooper test bug from Cerritos to Fairbanks back in 1990, it's not a trip I'd recommend to anyone. Bugs, flying rocks, mud, road graders in the middle of the narrow road with steep dropoffs on either side...and you've got to run pretty quick over those frost heaves through the Canadian mountains to avoid darkness. This web page generated 37 errors on the W3C validator...you people outta work on that...DS Huntsville, AL

I own Prius and are advocate for your companys foward thinking and planning in eco friendly and fuel efficient products. I offer a suggestion, so that I continue to privately advertise and buy your products. Put MP3 voice activated product in your vehicles. How did you allow Ford to get the jump on you? I thought you guys were on top of your game. They now got a selling point that will take some of your sales.

I think your advertising sucks.
